MINECRAFT SPEEDRUN SYSTEM MAP

September 2021

Tools used: Adobe Illustrator

Throughout the process of creating this piece, I knew I wanted to create a system map that used subtle yet smart references to the game Minecraft without it being too obvious. I started by identifying all steps and sub-steps required to complete the system. I then identified all objects and entities that I felt represented each major step and pulled colours from each entity to represent each major step required to complete the game. I wanted each step to be represented by a colour with significant importance to the game so that Minecraft fans would be able to pick up on it.

I used the typeface Bungee for the title and subtitles because I wanted to use a modular and square typeface as a subtle nod to the original typeface used in Minecraft and as a smart way to continue the theme of Minecraft without being too obvious. I used the typeface SF Pro Display for the captions because it was subtle and clean and was not too distracting. Although the sub steps are just as important in the captions, I wanted something easy to read and not too distracting inorder to keep the design from being too busy.
