SAPPHIC INTIMACY - GOSSIP

Belonging to my project titled Sapphic Intimacy, my Gossip themed book was inspired by the fictional novel Something to Talk About by Meryl Wilsner. I wanted to create something interactive that explored how outside forces could affect a relationship, the same way gossip can affect a relationship. I created a book sleeve with images of someone whispering on the front cover, a gate fold that included the definition of truth on one side and the definition of disclose on the other side, and a back cover with someone shushing. These images were taken by me and then edited to create a muted-toned cover that allows someone to feel comforted before answering the written prompts. Inside of the book sleeve, there was a smaller book with the cover featuring an ear cupped by a hand to enhance the feeling that what you are writing is being listened to by a trusted friend. Inside the smaller books is a series of writing prompts asking the reader to open up about their crush and how they make them feel, essentially asking for some of the most sensitive and secretive thoughts and feelings someone may have. The prompts end by asking the reader to pass on the book to a trusted friend in hopes that they keep their secret, with the chance that this information could turn into gossip.
